"Literature was not born the day when a boy crying 'wolf, wolf' came running out of the Neanderthal Valley with a big gray wolf at his heels; literature was born on the day when a boy came crying 'wolf, wolf,' and there was no wolf behind him."
~ VLADIMIR NABOKOV
So now I come to the next phase, that of producing literature. Long-time readers have followed my struggle to put words on paper these last couple of years, since my long hospital stay, actually. Projects have moved in fits and starts, and petered out one by one, leaving me with a residue of ash, and another disappointment to report to my fans. Now I am retired. The only business I have to be concerned with henceforward is storytelling. I mean to tell some. I am going to take a week, ten days, maybe a month, and just relax and do whatever half-assed thing comes to mind. From playing XBox to watching old movies to chase and tickle with the grandkids, my next project is to de-stress. Once that's done, I think the words will come. I'm going to make a date to be here every ten days for an update. I'll talk about one subject or another that has caught my eye, and tell you of my progress, though not in much detail, as that's how you lose the magic. It was Ray Bradbury who purportedly said that authors don't write books, characters do. My characters haven't been ready. I'm going to take them to town, get them drunk, and see what happens. Wish me luck!
I'll see you on the 12th. Til then, read well and write better!
